How to Update Your Hallway in 7 Quick and Easy Steps

Are you looking for ways to update your hallway? It’s often a space which is easily neglected and can get cluttered with the various objects of family life. However, it is the first thing that you (and your visitors!) see when entering your home, so it should be used to create a great first impression. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune either – some of the best hallway updates cost very little!

Update your Hallway: Gallery Wall

If you have a boring white wall, why not use it to introduce visitors to your home and your family? You could turn it into a gallery wall – get some family photos printed in black & white for a chic look, or even opt for inspirational quotes that will put a smile on your face as you dash out in the morning, late for work. This doesn’t have to be expensive – Wilko and IKEA are great for cheap frames.

Play with Colour

Colour is one of the easiest ways to update your hallway. Paint is so affordable, and the things you can do with it are practically endless. That tired old table you put your keys on? Paint it a cute pastel blue. That eyesore of a radiator? Paint it to make a statement. Oak banister looking boring? Paint it with a new stain. Don’t be afraid to play around with different colours!

Update your Hallway: Make a Nook

That space you have under the stairs? Make the most of it, and turn it into a little nook. You can place a chair there, for putting on your shoes, and even some storage for umbrellas and other last-minute grab-as-you-run-out items. You could wallpaper the underside of the stairs for a bold statement, or paint it. For the chair, why not try upcycling one you already have, with new cushions or different legs?

Update your Hallway: Stair Parts

If you’re looking for a more drastic update, why not transform your staircase? As long as the structure of your staircase is in working order, it’s actually not as expensive as you might think. You can change as little, or as much as you’d like. You can order stair parts from a reliable manufacturer, and completely change the look of your hallway. For a modern home,  try a glass balustrade, or if you’re more traditional, opt for iron.

Mirror Mirror

Hallways can be a narrow space, and one of the best ways to open them up is to put up a mirror. You could include various mirrors to make a feature wall. Having a mirror in the hallway makes light bounce around to make the space look bigger.

Update Your Hallway: Radiator Cover

You wouldn’t think that something as simple as a radiator cover could make such a difference, but it really does. It has functional benefits too, as it can be used to store items like keys, or you can place decorative items like flowers on it.

Statement Rug

Another cheap and cheerful addition! The right rug can really transform a space, and you can use it to introduce visitors to the rest of your home’s decor. Are you all about boho? Go for something a bit shaggy. If you’re more into monochrome, black and white stripes are timeless. If colour is your creative outlet, go for a bright yellow or red.

These are just a few tips to get you started on your hallway update. What are your favourite ways to dress up your hallway?
