Table of Contents – the most popular holiday destinations around the world for 2024
Japan

It’s no surprise that Japan is on the list – this mesmerising country tends to be on the list of the best places to see in the world year in and year out. All of this is with good reason. Japan is a place where the old and the new happily co-exist.
If you are looking for vibrant world cities then head to Tokyo. Take a city tour and head to Tokyo Tower to see the sights or walk the Shibuya crossing – which is a magical intersection that stops cars from all sides to allow the street to be flooded with pedestrians crossing from side to side and diagonally too. It’s quite the sight and one of the trendiest destinations to visit in the city.
Make sure you visit Japan during spring if you want to see the ephemeral Sakura, or cherry blossoms, in full bloom. The cherry blossoms can bloom at different times dependent on the area, but you can usually catch them in all it’s splendor in late March and early April. If you can’t make it during summer, the kugatsuzakura, or October variety of Cherry Blossoms are a great Autumn option.
No matter what time of year you visit, Japan will never disappoint. That being said, the summer months are very humid so do keep that in mind if you’re not a fan of the hot, sticky, humid summers.

Best time to visit: If you want to see the sakura, or cherry blossoms, visit in late March – early April. You can also brave the humidity heat and experience the Tanabata festival on 7 of July
Dubai, UAE

Another place that may surprise you with their hot, sticky, humid summers is Dubai, which is also on our list. Dubai is, and will continue to be a must-visit destination due to it’s access to luxury, and beautiful destinations. Luxury holidays to Dubai are all the rage and if you want to immerse yourself in excess Dubai is the place for you.
There are many things that make Dubai special, but one of those is current tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa. Another, is the shopping! Dubai is said to be the shopping capital of the Middle East, so if shopping is your thing then Dubai is the place to be. Dubai boasts of the second largest shopping centre in the world, the Dubai Mall, and it’s also home to over 70 more! The Dubai Mall even has an aquarium, which many people flock to see.
The Palm Jumeirah is also one of the top destinations for anyone visiting Dubai, whether it’s for the first time or if you’re a regular. I, for one, am amazed by this artificial archipelago made using reclaimed land.
Dubai is not only a modern city, but also rich in traditional Arab culture making it one of the the most popular holiday destinations around the world for 2024.

Best time to visit: Visit Dubai between November and February to enjoy milder yet pleasant weather and outdoor activities
Mexico

What’s not to love about Mexico? As a woman of Mexican descent, I can happily boast about this fascinating country with a rich culture, but you don’t need me to tell you why it’s a popular destination year after year. From its ancient ruins to the absolutely delicious local cuisine, Mexico is a country that will leave you enamoured.
Mexico tends to be very popular due to being an affordable travel destination. You can find some great package holidays and can choose whether you want to have a holiday in a luxury hotel or prefer backpacking through some breathtaking landscapes.
You can visit some of the most amazing historical sites, like the pyramids. Did you know that Chichen Itza is not the only pyramid in Mexico? There are over 30 pyramids scattered in the jungles of Mexico. If you like exploring natural wonders then Mexico is the perfect place to visit.

Best time to visit: It’s always a great time to visit Mexico, but if you want to check out some of the best beaches then head to the Riviera Maya between December and April, before hurricane season begins. Of course, if you want to enjoy the Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead celebrations visit the last week of October and beginning of November.
France

Home to one of the most vibrant cities in the world, Paris, France is one of the best cities in the world to visit. The capital city is a place to immerse yourself in rich culture and European fashion and luxury. Although Paris is a popular city to visit and enjoy Michelin-starred restaurants in, you can’t leave out the wonderful French countryside with its wonderful charm. There are also many coastal cities in France that are complete with sun-soaked beaches, this makes the French Riviera a perfect destination if you want to go celebrity spotting or bask in the sun.
Road trips are a great way to get to see more of a country. And after taking a road trip through the French countryside a few years back I was able to see some of the most beautiful sight and offered me new takes on an already popular country. I highly recommend visiting the most well-known attraction, the Eiffel Tower, but also getting away from Paris and taking in the true charm of France.

When to visit: Make your way to Paris between the 26 of July – 11 August for the 2024 Olympics. Paris is sure to be one of the top places for 2024 that’s for sure!
Spain

A location with many a Unesco World Heritage Site is Spain. This home away from home for me is an absolutely magical country and one that you don’t want to miss due its proximity to the British Isles and it’s affordable travel rates. There is no better place to visit for sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters that has direct flights from the UK!
Spain is a country that is rich in local traditions and is full of historic sites. History buffs can make their way to Barcelona to experience Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia, the famous incomplete church. Or why not head down to one of my favourite places in the world, Andalucia. Visit Seville for its rich local culture such as taking in a flamenco show or experiencing La Plaza de España or “Spain Square”. Or make your way down to the Costa del Sol in Malaga where you can immerse yourself in everything from fun nightlife to a stunning coastline, making it perfect for beach lovers.

When to visit: There’s always a good time to visit Spain. From the high holidays to off-season you’ll always be able to enjoy yourself. Lots of UK travellers visit the Costa del Sol in Malaga from September on as the weather is still enjoyable and even during October you can feel like you’re on summer holidays without paying the price tag.
There you have it! I hope you have found inspiration with some of the most popular holiday destinations around the world for 2024! What would you add to the list?
