Looking After Your Health After A Setback

Looking After Your Health After A Setback

Sharing is caring!

Setbacks come in all shapes and sizes, and they often come out of the blue when you least expect them. They can range from being involved in an accident, being diagnosed with a serious illness, the death of a loved one, drug relapse, divorce, and homelessness to list but a few.

Sometimes you’re not given the time to prepare, so you must know how to piece yourself back together when an unforeseen complication strikes. It’s crucial to remember not to blame yourself when something happens in your life that you have no control over, as this can make you feel worse, isolated, hopeless, and exacerbate your desperation.

What you can control is where you go from here, and how you can try to stay healthy during this trying time. Read on to find out what you can do to help yourself.

The Five Must Haves

In the wake of disaster, it’s easy to neglect your basic needs. Looking after your health after a setback isn’t easy. So see below the five practices you should undertake each day to ensure your personal hygiene doesn’t slip and your mental health doesn’t take a turn for the worse:

  • 1. Shower every morning
  • 2. Get your five portions of fruit and vegetables a day
  • 3. Exercise for at least thirty minutes each day, and walk 10,000 steps if you’re able to. Why not even try a new activity – Badminton is my current favourite because I find I can play it at my own pace.
  • 4. Drink at least two liters of filtered water
  • 5. Ensure you’re early to bed and early to rise

Don’t beat yourself up if falling into the routine takes a while, what matters is that you’re trying and that you’ll get there in time.

Get The Help You Deserve

Sometimes the processes of enjoying a healthy diet, good routines, and getting a full night sleep aren’t enough to get back on track when it comes to your health after a setback. There are times when only professional help will fit the bill, and there’s no shame in seeking assistance for a problem that you’ve worked hard to fix yourself.

The truth is that there are some issues that can’t go away by themselves, so be willing and ready to allow expert services, like a drug rehab for women that is specially crafted for those like you, to try and help your situation. Whether you’re experiencing problems with addiction, drug and alcohol misuse, trauma, or mental health issues, then focus on finding the right womens rehab center for you.

Don’t ever believe that you’re not worthy of help or that your problem isn’t ‘bad’ enough to warrant seeking support. You need to focus on going forward, getting the help you need, and learning coping mechanisms and strategies to get you back on track and to stay there.

Be Organized

When it comes to your health after a setback, your mind is going to be challenging to focus as you’ll find yourself thinking about what’s happened to you and neglecting other tasks in your life. This is completely normal. However, it can make you lose track of everyday tasks and activities, and other appointments you might have.

So, with this in mind, be sure to stay as organized as you can with the help of a daily planner, making notes for yourself, using your calendar and timer to prompt you and to ensure that you make lists of what you need to do.
