You have 24 hours to call your own – no work, no responsibilities and no plans. What do you do with all of that free time? Do you treat yourself to a duvet day with breakfast, lunch and tea in bed? Or would you much rather get out of the house, feeling as though you have contributed something to the day?
Different people have different perceptions of perfection; it is what makes the world beautiful. What one person may define as their perfect day off, another might describe it as a living nightmare. Perhaps you don’t actually know what you would rather do and are fearful that you would just waste that oh-so-precious day off.
Well, we are not going to allow that to happen. Here, we share our ideas of what you can do on your day off.
A trip to the Seaside
It’s the summer! It’s warm! So what better place to be than by the sea on a perfect day off? In the United Kingdom, there are numerous beaches for one to explore – that’s one good thing about being an island. Some of the best UK seaside towns and cities include:
- Brighton
- Bournemouth
- Weymouth
- Newquay
- Great Yarmouth
- Skegness
- Blackpool
There are many, many more and it just goes to show that you don’t necessarily have to hop on a flight to catch the sun in a beautiful picturesque setting.
Binge Watching
Hands up who has been that caught up in a television series that they stayed up way past their bedtime? Okay, you can put your hands down now. We have all been there after coming home from work – putting our box set of choice on and watching episode after episode until you realise that you have left yourself only a couple of hours sleep before you have to get up for work in the morning.
On your day off, however, you have the entire day to lounge around on the sofa in front of your favourite programme. To some, sitting in front of the television all day feels like a day lost, but to those invested in a series, it can be a rollercoaster of emotions, experiencing the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Living vicariously through fictional characters and the decisions they make can be one of the most stressful experiences you can hope for.
Charity
Are you the kind of person that wants to give back to society? If so, then our first two ideas probably aren’t for you. Instead, you want to get involved in a greater cause and help those in need. You are a special kind of person and, frankly, the world needs more of you.
Even if you have never donated anything to charity, you will feel a warm feeling inside should you give up your day off in the name of charity. Helping at a shelter, donating money, food or clothing and toys that are no longer used are just some of the things that you can do that will make a difference.

Catch up on Sleep
Fed up of getting up early every morning and facing the long bleary-eyed commute into work? If so, then why not take the day to catch up on sleep. Don’t move out of your bed, or at least refuse to get up prior to midday. The power of sleep simply cannot be underestimated – we need it in order to function correctly and perform at our best.
Have we mapped out your perfect day off? Or are you still unsure on what to do with your free time? Whatever you choose to do, make sure that it is something that makes you smile!
