My obsession with home decor is a long-standing one. I’ve been a fan of different types of decor styles and trends for many, many years. I love it all. One thing that’s home related that I have loved just as much if not more than decor is home organisation. There’s just something about having a place for everything and everything in its place that makes me feel like I’ve got it all together. We all know that having it all together is an unachievable feat, but by having some savvy storage solutions you’re bound to get just that much closer.
Shelves
Storage solutions come in all shapes and sizes and shelving is a great way to not only store your items but also display them. There are a lot of options when it comes to shelves and if you’re a fan of Scandinavian design string shelving is the minimalist way to organise it all. As an advocate of small spaces and making sure you utilise your space wisely the versatility of the design is brilliant!
Ceiling shelves are also a novel but great idea to maximise unutilised space in any room of the home. You can hang the shelves from the ceiling in your bathroom for towels or hang them in your living room for books.
Hidden Beds
We don’t all have the luxury of having a guest bedroom. But just because you don’t have a guest bedroom it doesn’t mean you have to send your guests to a hotel. Sometimes all you need is to offer a bed for a weekend and for those occasions you can find solutions that offer hidden beds! Ottoman beds are brilliant as they can serve a dual purpose – ottoman by day and single fold out bed by night.
Another option that I recently came across is a chest of drawers on wheels that goes against the wall. If you pull it out it houses a single bed. Brilliant!
Baskets and Boxes
I love using baskets for storage in every room of the house, especially in the closets and cupboards. What makes this a savvy storage solution is the uniformity and illusion of order it creates. From rattan to fabric to Curver baskets it’s a great way to to make sure that your bits can remain organised. You can also go the extra mile by adding labels to the basket in case you want to avoid people just rummaging through them and defeating the purpose.
Cardboard boxes are also a fab option. Homesense is one of my favourite places to find decorative boxes that can fit in with your decor. Functional and pretty, can’t beat that!
What are your favourite ways to organise your home? We tend to personalise our storage options based on our home, but I hope to have shared some options that are universal and can be adapted regardless of the size of your house or flat. They are even useful if you live alone or share your space with others.
Do you know of any other savvy storage solutions?
