It’s summer in the northern hemisphere, and even though the Great British Summer isn’t always as glorious as one would want it (or need it) to be, it’s here and it’s ours to enjoy! I don’t know about you, but I find myself cleaning more during summer than any other season! This is why I wanted to share with you 6 summer cleaning hacks to try today and make the most of your summer.
Have the right flooring
With the kids, pets, and even ourselves dragging in the great outdoors every time we come back from our walks the worst thing for me is dealing with the floors! I once had a house that had carpet everywhere but the kitchen, even the bathrooms! That was such a nightmare, but since then we’ve decided to go the laminate floor route.
It may be a bit more of a complex hack, but trust me, it’s one that can take a bit of initial effort but will make sure you save time and money in the long run. No more ruined carpets, no more set in stains. Just grab a broom and mop and quickly get rid of the muck!

Wash your hands
This one is also a bit topical, but it’s one that I have been practising even before the current situation. When you get into the habit of coming home and washing your hands you not only prevent the spread of germs but you also don’t have to worry about little hands leaving fingerprints all over the house. It’s simple but effective and when you’re trying to make life simpler then simple is the best!
No shoes in the house
A rule that I am adamant about in my home is the no shoes rule! Sure, this one is easier to impose on our own family, but it’s a habit worth starting. As soon as you come in the door, take off your shoes. Have some warm and cosy slippers ready to put your feet into during winter, and during summer do what I do and have a pair of cute (and affordable) flip flops that are only to be worn indoors. This helps with the cleaning and is more hygienic than you an imagine.

Clean your washing machine
After you do your laundry let your washing machine air dry by leaving the door open. It can easily become musty and start making your clothes feel and smell like they’re not as clean as they should be. On top of that, consider adding some white wine vinegar to your detergent compartment and run a rinse cycle. This helps clean your machine and ensure your machine is efficient and cleans as it should. The best part, it doesn’t smell of vinegar!
Clean at night
I’m not an early riser. I mean, I do wake up at a reasonable time but anything before 8 is brutal for me. Which is why one of my favourite times to clean is at night. Not only is it cooler in the house, but it’s the time when everyone is tucked in bed and the house is actually available to be cleaned!
I don’t have kids living with me full-time but even then I like to use that as some quiet time for myself to decompress from the day. The best part, you wake up to a clean house!
So, there you go! These are super simple tips and hacks but sometimes we just need to go back to basics!
