Being a full-time writer (and/or blogger) is hard work, isn’t it? YES, I hear you say, but it’s also immensely rewarding. Growing up, if anyone told me I could make a living typing on a computer and even considering renting a serviced office like Click Offices, I would have scoffed. The internet was in its infancy and writing top notch content for a living meant being a published author or print journalist.
Fast forward to 2019, and I often wonder how I could have learned so much in the few years since I created my site. And I don’t say that boastfully. What I have picked up is still the tip of the iceberg. There are so many things to focus on when you’re in the business of writing but the main thing is content. As they say, content is king, and they couldn’t be more right. It’s also the key to success in many ways.
The concept of content marketing is what pro-blogging is built on. It’s also one of the most important parts of going and staying pro. So, why is writing top-notch content so important? Let’s find out by looking at some top content marketing tips.
Why Content Matters
Writing good content is ultimately the best way to engage your readers and forge relationships. Establishing yourself as an expert in your field is one of the best and most useful content marketing things that a blogger can do. Building on those long-term relationships you can then provide products and solutions that are beneficial to your readers.
There are 3 very important keywords to focus on when you are creating content for your audience – relationship, relevant, and targeted.
3 Content Marketing Tips
Relationships
The most important part of content marketing and writing as a blogger is focusing on building genuine relationships with your audience and readers. Good content creates expertise in a field. This in turn creates trust, and helps for the relationships that you need if you are wanting to see your business flourish and get to another level.
Relevant
Is your content relevant to your audience? Writing about astronomy and physics won’t be a hit on a food blog, for example. You need to know your audience and share content that is relevant to them and their interests.
Targeted
Travel blog, for example, can be varied and complete. But a blog post about luxury resorts won’t appeal to an audience that travels as a family and is looking for more affordable options in accommodation. If your core demographic are young families, then the former may not be a good move.
Sure, there are some types of content that are more general and varied audiences can benefit from. That’s perfectly fine, just know who your audience is and make content tailored and targeted for them.
What are the Benefits of Content Marketing
Creating good work is about much more than working on a campaign and focusing on the immediate results of your article. The key to good content marketing is creating evergreen content that attracts your readers to the hub of knowledge you’ve created.
The thing is, good content helps solve a problem for your readers. So the longer your article stays relevant the more useful it can be for different people at different times. Which in turn establishes you as an authoritative source in your field and creates a better relationship with your readers.
I once read that content marketing is the gift that keeps on giving and I’ve found that to be true on many occasions. I’ve worked with companies that I probably shouldn’t have gotten the opportunity to work with. Some may say that I wasn’t even fully qualified to work with them.
Sharing my knowledge
My social media following is still a humble 10K, and on other metrics, I am not soaring nor are they through the roof. The reason that I have had the opportunity to work on certain campaigns and with certain companies is down to the writing. Plus the benefit that they feel a good article will provide in the long run.
I may have written about things that you may not have even considered addressing for your own blog yet, and that’s ok. You may just be blogging as a hobby or may not know how to make it a full-time career. There are many resources that can help you take the leap, and I will be sharing my personal knowledge with you even more in the coming months.
The most important thing that I can tell you though is this, write about your passions and you’ll be much more prone to writing top notch content. Sure, there are content marketing tips that you need to follow and many things behind that scenes to make this well-oiled machine that is blogging work. But without that passion to write about what you love and about what you know you may not reach the same level of success.
