Ageing gracefully is a learned art! Yes, you read that right! If you see a new wrinkle, don’t fret! Embrace it, because it is a mark of mature beauty. None of us likes getting old, but it is inevitable so might as well embrace it. Embrace it gracefully! The 40s are the new 30s and 30s are the new 20s. Keep calm and read on for some stellar tips that may have skipped your mind.
Reduce stress
Stress is the single thing that’s the most damaging to ageing gracefully. It puts years on your actual age and sends your cells into overdrive. This is easier said than done, however, there are ways to reduce stress. Let go of responsibilities. Start doing things that are the most necessary. Most of us find it hard to prioritize and we don’t realize just how stressful it is to have a schedule full of shuffled priorities. Take some time to sit and relax, move around your list of responsibilities with a clear mind. Most things can wait. Pamper yourself with a nice spa and take a day out for yourself in a week to reconnect and unwind.
Get ample sleep
We all realize the importance of getting ample sleep. This is probably the most neglected aspect of our lives because there is always something else to do. Especially as you get older, the responsibilities just never stop. Make an effort to manage your time better so you don’t skimp on your sleep. The good news is that as you grow older you need fewer hours of sleep. As you cross your 30’s you may find that you wake up well rested in the morning on just 6 hours of sleep.
Eat a balanced diet
If you’re a woman who takes good care of herself and is ageing gracefully then you understand the importance of a well-balanced diet. Even if you aren’t able to take care of yourself, you’ve realized the importance of eating well by now. Everyone is different and so it is with the body’s nutritional requirements. Consult a dietician to help you draw a diet plan that is suitable for you. Many foods that contain vitamin C are very good for your skin and keep it hydrated. This keeps wrinkles away.
Invest in good products for your skin with natural ingredients. Dr Bill Andrews from Siorai (/) explains that our skin becomes loose and wrinkly when the telomeres on our chromosomes shorten. Using an anti-ageing cream with the molecule TAM-818 will stop that process, which makes the skin look more youthful. Anti-ageing creams that are made from natural products can help keep your skin even healthier.
Get a hobby
Get a hobby that makes you happy. If you’re happy it shows on your face and keeps the pesky wrinkles at bay. Overthinking is another reason that many women complain makes them look older. Being mindful of your surroundings and enjoying every moment will help you to enjoy life better and stay happy. Your hobby is a way to reconnect with yourself and have something of your own. Invest in solely for yourself!
Get plenty of water and exercise
Keep yourself hydrated mindfully and do yourself a favour. Well-hydrated skin has fewer wrinkles and looks fresh. Do you ever feel like your skin is patchy and lacklustre? It could be because of inactivity and dehydration. Exercising daily slows down the process of ageing and keeps you young longer. You’ll keep away random aches and pains that threaten you every once in a while when you cross 35.
Luckily there are so many ways to exercise that you can make this an enjoyable activity. Yoga, aerobics, dancing, pilates, cross fitness and going to the gym are just some options from so many available today. You’re spoiled for choice! Be mindful that much exercise will dehydrate you so drink water accordingly. Most doctors recommend you drink around 3 litres of water a day, but if you’re exercising you could bump this up.
Personal alarm company, Taking Care says that, “Taking part in exercise can improve your muscle strength which is vital for maintaining your balance as you grow old. This can reduce the chance of having a trip or fall at home considerably.”
If you’re still fretting, look at women like Oprah, JK Rowling, Meryl Streep and Julia Child who are still as youthful as ever. These women found success in their 40s. Just remember to be happy and keep doing what makes you happy. It’s never too late to start and it’s definitely not the time to feel old. The world is still at your feet!
