Greece: My Travel Wanderlust Wishlist

When I’m not traveling, I’m fantasizing about it. If you can’t go on a trip, there’s no harm in dreaming about where you’re going to go in the future. I have a long list of incredible destinations I’d love to visit, and things I want to do when I make it there. For each country, I can think of several cities and historical or natural sites that I want to see. One of the great things about living in the UK is how easy it is to access the rest of Europe. It’s even simple to get to parts of North Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Within Europe, one of the destinations at the top of my list has to be Greece. So they might be in a bit of financial trouble at the moment (okay, a lot). But it’s still an incredible place for a vacation.

Greece: Rhodes

Greece is a nation of islands, and there are too many incredible ones to name. There are several island groups, and Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands. Like much of Greece, it has plenty of beautiful beaches you can relax on in the warm weather. It’s the perfect place to book a trip with secretescapes.com or any site that will get you a great luxury deal. But Rhodes also has beautiful wooded areas for people who want to be more active. And there’s a great nightlife in Rhodes Town. Plus, of course, there’s lots of history to observe too.

Greece: Santorini

The island of Santorini is the largest in an archipelago of the same name. You are probably familiar with its white buildings and blue domes, perched on cliffs 300m above the sea. It’s one of the most recognizable places in Greece, and one I would love to see for myself. Just looking at the formation of the island is incredible. It hugs a huge crater caused by one of the largest volcanic eruptions to have ever occurred. History buffs will love the Archaeological Museum. Or they might like the Volcan Wine Museum if they enjoy wine too. One of the best things to do has to be to sail around Santorini.

Crete

Crete is one of the most popular islands for vacations in Greece. It has a varied terrain, so you can do everything from climbing a mountain to relaxing on the beach. It’s an excellent place for a family trip but perfect for couples, friends or even single people too. Visit Heraklion, the capital of the island, to see the Palace of Knossos. You can find another Archaeological Museum there too. Greece is a paradise for history lovers, so you can split your time between learning and doing nothing on the beach.

Athens

You can’t leave out Greece’s capital of Athens. It might be on the mainland, but it’s still just as incredible as any of the islands. It’s where you can find the Acropolis and its museum, and the Daphni Monastery, which are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Athens also has a great nightlife, with restaurants, bars and clubs to explore.

There’s so much to see in Greece that I would have to spend a long time there. Or keep going back until I’d seen enough.
