Spring attire is confusing at the best of times but what do you do if you’ve been invited to a springtime wedding? Would you have any idea of what to wear? Chances are it won’t be warm enough for a short dress and it’s probably not cold enough for trousers… Together with Trilogy, premium fashion retailers of brands such as Helene Berman, we take a look at the style predictions for SS18 and how you can use this to choose your outfit for a springtime wedding.
On the catwalk
Spring and summer collections always bring bold patterns, colour and styles to the catwalk and this year is no different. Designers are the trendsetters so why not take some inspiration from the catwalk and high fashion?
Vintage-look florals are predicted to be a huge trend this season, as spotted on Edrem and Dolce & Gabanna models. Use this inspiration and choose a dress with a large or small floral print, depending on your preference. Florals in spring may not sound groundbreaking, but you can’t go wrong with this classic staple of springtime.
Powerhouse fashion house Valentino offers looks for those who are more daring. Their SS18 collection was all about contrast — subtle pastel pinks contrasted with yellow flowers. Some designers have been combining the unusually paired red and pink in their designs thus creating a colour palette that we really aren’t used to. Nina Ricci was embracing fringe and tassels, which are perfect for a dressy outfit. Choose a spring dress with tasselled sleeves for something a bit different.
If you’re a night-time guest, don’t hold back on the glitz and glam. Glitter is usually kept hidden away in the wardrobe until Christmas and new year but Ashish brought some sparkle and drama to the catwalk with her floor-length dresses.
Shapes and fits seem to be very varied which is great news! Choose one that you feel confident in and go for it! There were sleeveless garments that brushed the floor, plunging v-necks and layering with crew-necks beneath slip dresses.
Gucci and Balenciaga are pushing the bum bag style and it seems to be taking off! This style of bag is perfect for a wedding — dance the night away with your belongings close to hand, if you’re brave enough to do so!
Styles, colours and prints
As we mentioned before, sleeveless dresses are very ‘in’ this season. Combined with ruffled shoulders, the spring dress is classy whilst remaining very modern. Showing your curves is hot this season too, with nipped waists and belted over shirts. Think logo belts to nip the waist and show off your fashion sense as well. A soft-tailored coat to keep your arms warm during the day and de-layer when you head to the dancefloor is also a must-have accessory.
Feathers are predicted to be a popular adornment, too. We saw feathered stilettos last year and it looks as though that was just the start of it. If you’re not a huge feather fan, why not choose a feathered clutch or peacock style crossbody bag?
You can always opt for the classic springtime colour of yellow, too. Luxury boutiques have seen sales of yellow dresses spike in recent months and it doesn’t show any sign of slowing down! You don’t have to be overly bright in this colour either — choose a more pastel hue and still look on-trend.
So, as we can see, this season is all about floral patterns, cinched waists and pastel hues. Choose a shape that you feel confident in and own it for your next springtime wedding.
