Why engineered wood floors are better than carpet

Sharing is caring!

While some of us prefer the plus and cosy look of carpet in our homes. I’d be right to say that the majority of us have a thing for the look of wood flooring and engineered wood flooring. There’s something about that look that works in both modern and contemporary homes as well as in period houses. From being green to raising your resale value, here’s why engineered wood floors are better than carpet and why you should consider them for your home.

Wood Floors are Hygienic

If you or someone you live with suffer from allergies then you really shouldn’t need more convincing about making the switch. While carpets are associated with warmth and a cosy home, they are also magnets for dirt, dust, grime, and other things you’d rather not imagine. From dead skin, to the things that our beloved pets bring in that we’d rather not talk about, not only are they not hygienic they are also the culprits when it comes to the breathing difficulties of those with allergies.

Another perk is that they are much easier to clean than carpets. Take a broom or a vacuum with a wooden flooring setting and you’re good to go. The dirt and debris is visible, unlike on carpets, and once it’s gone you’ll know it’s gone. After you’ve swept up you can take a damp mop and give it a once over and you’re good to go. Make sure the mop is only damp, and not wet as this can damage your wooden flooring!

Wood Flooring is an Eco Friendly Alternative

If you are making changes in your home and lifestyle to be more sustainable (which we all should be!) then you’ll be glad to know that wood flooring is an eco-friendly flooring alternative. Wood is a renewable and recyclable resource and if done responsibly, without exploiting our forests, it is actually the most renewable natural resource.

There’s a variety designs available

We all have very different tastes when it comes to the interior design and decoration of our homes. That is one of the benefits of wood; there are many different stains and shades that you can incorporate into your decor to work for you.

Shades of maple are used when you want to achieve a more bright and airy look. This works great in contemporary homes and Scandinavian style interiors,. And works especially well here in the UK where we can use as much light as we can get!

The grain can also play a role in your design and how the flooring looks in your home. In more contemporary homes you’ll see there’s little to no texture, which gives a sleek look.

More contemporary home designs tend to use oak. This is another type of wood that comes in different shades as well as grains. The more texture that you seem to have the more rustic the feel you seem to end up with.

As you can see, there are many reasons why engineered wood floors are better than carpet. Consider having them in your home!
