The best medium size suitcase for you – Rock Luggage review

I received an absolutely gorgeous suitcase from Rock Luggage, who were kind enough to send me the Chicago medium hard luggage suitcase for review.

This post was originally written in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, and boy was it a difficult year. No one was doing much travelling those days, understandably. But it was so nice to have been able to have something to look forward to, which is why it was lovely to have written this Rock Luggage review then. Fast-forward to 2023, and it’s still one of the most popular posts on our site! It’s not hard to see why, as anyone who will be travelling will want to have a good, sturdy, good-looking suitcase to take on their adventures.

Myself included!

As an expat travel is part of my life. Not only does travel help me be with those I love, it helps my mental health immensely; which is why it was time to write a travel post! Whether you’re planning on travelling soon for work or want to take this time to plan for when we can travel freely, this Rock Luggage hard shell case review is a good way to start!

Why choose Rock Luggage?

Whether you travel for pleasure or work, an important part of being able to travel comfortably is to not have to worry about getting your things to and fro. It’s important to make sure our possessions are protected, which is why the integrated Travel Sentry and TSA approved combination lock is a fab feature to have. I’m also a big proponent of making wise investments, and having a warranty for that investment is definitely worth having. By investing in a Rock Luggage suitcase it also means that you can expect a good warranty, in the case of the Chicago case you get a 15 year warranty, which is brilliant!

Rock Luggage manufacture as well as distribute their luggage. They can be purchased through their site as well as other retailers, so it’s good to have options to as where to buy them, too. The company is socially responsible, ethical, independent and family run, too! They have been doing this for over 40 years!

Features to look out for:

  • 15 year warranty
  • Strong hard-shell construction
  • 8x easy glide wheels for improved stability and handling
  • Integrated Travel Sentry approved TSA combination lock
  • Adjustable push button trolley system
  • Comfortable top and side carry handles
  • Fully lined interior with mesh divider section and inside pocket

The Chicago medium hard-shell luggage

The first thing that I have to say is that the rose gold colour, with gold details is absolutely beautiful. The hard shell just looks so lovely in that colour and it gives it an extra bit of shine. Though you can choose from other colours if this shade isn’t for you. I am happy with the colour because it’s lovely but also because it is different, and that is great to help you identify it in a busy airport or train station.

The details are well thought out, and the handle is sturdy too. That’s something that I tend to look at when I am going to buy luggage. It’s important that the handles are sturdy and strong and this handle definitely is. Another thing that’s crucial is to have wheels that can easily glide and rotate. Once you’ve used a suitcase with easy glide wheels, 8 of them at that, you’ll never go back. I’ve confirmed that the easy glide wheel make it easier to handle the suitcase on any terrain and allow you to keep a swift pace if need be.

That’s another one to tick off the list!

The last thing I look at, which also ticks the box is the zipper. It’s a sturdy zipper that won’t come undone or can be easily tampered with. The suitcases are put through strenuous testing, which should give you some peace of mind.

The inside gives you different pockets and compartments to keep things organised as well as a packing strap to help things stay in place.

Is this a carry-on suitcase?

While I was so chuffed to receive this suitcase, I was initially a wee bit disappointed that it isn’t a carry-on suitcase. I tend to fly with carry on only even when I fly abroad as it’s just much easier to do. However, as soon as I used the suitcase for the first time I knew that it was the perfect size; big enough to hold more things, but not too bulky and heavy to make travel difficult.

I am so glad to own a suitcase that’s this size. It’s perfect for short haul flights, which usually equals a short trip, and would be great for train travel or even road trips.

Check out all of the specifications:

Maximum external dimensions (incl wheels and handles): 68 x 46 x 26 cm
Weight: 3.7 kg
Capacity: 60 litres

Material: ABS/PC
Manufacturer’s warranty: 15 year(s)

I’ve had many suitcases in varying price ranges throughout the years, and even though some may be better than others but none live up to what I have experienced so far with this suitcase. Which is quite impressive. I don’t know why I took so long to get a hard-case suitcase!

From carry on suitcases that are just a wee bit too too small, to full size suitcases that are just too big and bulky, it can sometimes be difficult to find the right size luggage for your needs. I am really pleased with this suitcase from Rock Luggage and hope you enjoyed my Rock Luggage review!
